Every cabinet has corners — and for decades, the industry has solved them the same way: sharp 90° edges, held together with visible screws. It works, but it comes with trade-offs most people don’t think about until they’ve bumped into a sharp edge or tightened a loose screw for the third time.
At Vipas by Vassam, we asked a simple question: what if the corner itself could be redesigned to solve both problems at once? The result is our patented aluminium corner component — a small part with an outsized impact on how our cabinets look, feel, and perform.
What Is the Corner Component?
It’s a precision-engineered joint made specifically to connect cabinet panels at the corner — without relying on conventional hardware like screws, brackets, or fasteners. Instead of joining flat panels at a sharp angle, our component creates a smooth, rounded corner that’s both structural and aesthetic.
Two things make it possible:
Die-cast aluminium construction. The component is die-cast — molten aluminium injected into a precision mould under high pressure — which gives every unit the same tight tolerances and consistent shape, batch after batch. Aluminium is also naturally resistant to corrosion, which matters in humid environments like bathrooms.
Powder-coated finish. After casting, each component is powder coated for a smooth, durable surface finish that resists scratches, chipping, and everyday wear — so it looks as good years down the line as it does on day one.
Aesthetically Designed, Not Just Functional
Most hardware is designed to be hidden or ignored. We designed ours to be seen. The rounded profile isn’t just about eliminating sharp edges (though that matters — more on that below); it’s a deliberate design choice that gives our cabinets a distinct, clean silhouette you won’t find on standard flat-cornered furniture.
It’s a detail that quietly signals quality: when you run your hand along the corner of one of our cabinets and feel a smooth curve instead of a sharp edge, that’s not an accident — that’s the component doing its job.
Safer By Design: No Sharp Edges
Sharp cabinet corners are a genuine, everyday hazard — especially at hip and shoulder height in bathrooms, hallways, and kitchens, where a bump is only a matter of time. It’s an even bigger concern in homes with young children, where furniture edges are a common source of minor injuries.
Our corner component eliminates the sharp edge entirely. The rounded design means there’s no 90° corner to catch a hip, an elbow, or a curious toddler mid-exploration. It’s a small change with a real safety benefit.
Eliminating Conventional Hardware
Here’s where the component does double duty: its interlocking shape holds the cabinet frame together structurally, which means no conventional screws or fasteners are needed to join the corner.
That translates into real, practical advantages:
- Faster, easier assembly — fewer parts to align, fewer fasteners to install, less time from box to finished cabinet
- A cleaner look — no visible screw heads breaking up the finish
- Fewer failure points — no threads to strip and no fasteners to work loose over months of humidity and daily use
- A safer product overall — nothing exposed for curious hands to unscrew
In short: fewer parts, less hardware, and a stronger, safer result — all from a single component.
Protected by Patent
This isn’t an off-the-shelf part — it’s a design we developed and have taken steps to protect. The corner component is patented in India, and we have a patent application pending in the United States. We take that seriously, because it reflects genuine engineering work, not just a marketing claim.
See It In Our Cabinets
The corner component isn’t a concept on a spec sheet — it’s already built into our cabinet range. Take a close look at our Top Bathroom Vanity Cabinet and Top Vanity Cabinet with Mirror, and you’ll see (and feel) the difference a rounded, screw-free corner makes.
Next time you’re comparing cabinets — for your bathroom, kitchen, or anywhere else — take a moment to check the corners. It’s a small detail, but it says a lot about how a product is actually built.
